William Morris Brother Rabbit Pattern Placemat

William Morris Brother Rabbit Pattern Placemat

Add a little English country cottage charm to your dining table with these William Morris Brother Rabbit pattern placemats. Available in traditional Arts and Crafts Movement colors and in a variety of stylish new colors to match your home, kitchen and dining room decor. This colorway: oasis blue and white.

The Brother Rabbit pattern is also known as Brer Rabbit, as William Morris was inspired by Joel Chandler Harris' newly-published Uncle Remus: His Songs and His Sayings (a favorite of the Morris family) as well as a 17th-century Italian silk. One of the few patterns William Morris designed specifically to be printed on cotton, this chintz pattern features a woodland scene of birds and marvelous rabbits who seem to be as full of character as that trickster Brer Rabbit himself. Morris ingeniously sparked the formal Renaissance forms of the Italian silk with the warmth, wit, and humor of the the Brer Rabbit, and in doing so created one of his most beloved and enduring designs. This has practical applications as well, making this pattern appropriate for formal dinners and casual dining.
